Our Apothecary Collection is a selection of coffees that we believe are of the highest quality, have innovative processes and showcase specialty coffee by allowing us to taste some of the best qualities in the cup. This Gesha is one of the most exotic coffees we had on our shelves.
Diego Bermudez, is an award-winning coffee producer and an innovator in the industry. He holds a Coffee Quality Institute Processing course level 2 qualification and has a laboratory on the farm where he devises scientific methods to enhance the potential of their beans. He carefully selects local micro bio-organisms to influence the coffee during processing, measuring everything from time, temperature, pH, sugar content, and microbial load. He and his partner started the Hatchi Project which is producing really high quality coffees to preserve the genetic makeup of the gesha varietal.
The Gesha varietal is originally from Ethiopia, as are all coffee varietals, however this variety was more recently transplanted to a coffee farm in Panama. It has since made its way to Colombia and achieved very high scores at competitions, and is delicate not only in flavour, but also in how the plant grows. It is susceptible to disease and requires a lot of care and high elevation to keep the plant healthy.
It is rare and expensive for us to acquire, not just due to Diego's care for this delicate varietal, but also due to gesha's limited availability, high prices at auctions, and an exceptional cup profile.
Diego Bermudez and his family are at the forefront of the Colombian coffee industry, continuously pushing coffee production and quality boundaries.
Each jar holds 180g beans.
