Background:
Ana Maria Donneys is a young producer that comes from a family of coffee producers. She is the 5th generation of her coffee producing family. Santiago connected with Ana Maria through social media and we have bought three lots from her! We have just released the first lot as part of our Apothecary Collection. It's an anaerobic red honey with a double fermentation. This Caturra varietal comes from the region of Quindio. This coffee tastes like cherry candy, amaretto and blood orange. It is really delicious and almost has an effervescent mouthfeel that reminds us of champagne. We had the opportunity to do a mini interview with Ana Maria where she tells her story!
Ana Maria Donneys "in her words":
"I’m a 5th generation coffee producer from Quindio, Colombia. I took over the family business in 2019, after my grandfather passed away. My mom helped me during the first year and unfortunately passed away due to a heart attack in 2020. At first didn’t believe there was a future in this, I grew up hearing how hard it was to produce coffee and selling it under the cost. So, I left Quindio to look for a brighter future.

In Bogota I started reading and learning about all the opportunities we had by bringing quality. This, combined with all the emotional moments we were going through, we started Cafe Primitivo, as a way of honoring my family legacy and specifically my grand father (Primitivo Correal Barrios), who loved and was super passionate about coffee and all the people that are behind each cup.

I am a Q grader and co-founder of IWCA Colombia, (International Women Coffee Alliance). IWCA Colombia offers a way of sharing knowledge and bringing people in all the coffee value chain together to create opportunities for women and young coffee producers in Colombia.
